CSIS - Scotland debut for Dunblane cyclist

Dunblane road cyclist, Calum McLean will compete for Scotland for the first time this weekend in the three-day Isle of Man Youth Tour stage race (4 - 6 May).

A second and third place in successive races on the flat, fast circuits of Ingliston, Edinburgh last month secured the Stirling Bike Club 15 year old's place in the Scottish Youth (under 16) team.

The Tour, which has attracted an entry of over 100 young cyclists, starts on Friday night with an 800 metre prologue on the capital, Douglas's promenade, followed by a road race on Saturday then a circuit race on Sunday.

“By the time I'm 18 I'd like to be Scottish Road Race Champion,” said Calum, a member of Scottish Cycling's Talent Team.   Helping him towards that goal is the Central Scotland Institute of Sport which selected him last November.

“They helped me with Strength & Conditioning training at the start of the year,” said Calum.  “Now I'm using the psychologist, the nutritionist and I've also met the physio who has helped me with stretching - they've all been pretty good.”
