Area Institutes

Area Institutes

The sportscotland institute of sport area network provides high performance expertise to Scotland's potential world class athletes offering access to essential support services.

Six Area Institutes of Sport in Scotland form an integral part of the sportscotland institute of sport. The Area Institutes operate regionally through local area partnerships to help improve athlete performances on their road to the world stage.

The Area Institutes have been critical to establishing the culture required in high performance sport and in nurturing Scottish athletes through their key development phases providing programmes and services appropriate to their age and stage within the performance pathway.

The significant investment by sportscotland in first establishing the Area Institutes together with 60 partners across Scotland, and committing to that investment through to 2009, is important in signaling that we are serious about the future of performance sport. Together the SIS and the Areas Institutes form the sportscotland institute of sport network. The network has aligned philosophy and Area Institute athletes can progress seamlessly to the SIS upon meeting performance criteria.
