AIS - Scottish Area Institute of Sport tennis players win three Open titles

Scottish Area Institute of Sport supported athletes won three of the eight finals in Friday's Scottish Junior Open Championships at Craiglockhart, Edinburgh, which had attracted a record entry of 423 players from each side of the border.

Katie Gater CSISFresh from the European Open in Copenhagen, where she won both the 14 and under singles and doubles titles, Aberdeen's Joanna Henderson (Grampian Institute) beat the top seed, England's Dena Daly in a straight set 14s final.

Bridge of Allan's Katie Gater (Central Institute) retained her 16 and under title, ousting the top seed, Hannah Martin-Merchant from England 4-6 6-3 6-4.
 
Gater re-appeared for the 18 and under final, but found her match in Glasgow's Caitlin Steel (Central Institute).  Steel, winner of this title in 2005 and anxious to impress the Scottish team selectors for this September's Four Nations event, won the match 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.
 
Euan McIntosh (East Institute) was edged out of the boys under 12s final by England's William Huyton.
