Irene Riach

Irene joined the SIS in July 2007 as a part time Performance Nutritionist. Her role has a focus on practioner development across the Institute network. She provides nutrition support to individual and team athletes aswell as specific projects within key sports.

Irene qualified as registered dietitian in 1996 and worked as a research dietitian at Glasgow University where her research interests included nutrition and anthropometrical changes in diabetes and obesity.  In 1999 she qualified as an  accredited sports dietitian and has worked in sports nutrition ever since. Irene has worked predominately in the sport of football, setting up and developing a nutrition service for Celtic FC and consulting in the English premiership. She has travelled nationally and internationally with a variety of sports and has consulted on a variety of projects including the Marathon Des Sables, long distance sailing events, co authored on the Scottish Mountain Bike Leader Association Official Training Manual and more recently the development of UK Sport's Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register (SENr).

Irene is a keen mountain biker, adventure racer, cycle tourist and when she gets the time is always ready to try a new sport!
