Tom Pendreigh began with the Institute as head wheelchair curling coach and GB Paralympic coach in August 2007. The position was created as a fundamental part of the Integrated Performance Plan for wheelchair curling in Scotland and Great Britain and is a first for international curling.
The main purpose of the post will be to direct and lead the delivery of the world class plans for wheelchair curling as agreed by the Scottish Institute of Sport, British Curling Limited, the RCCC, SWCA and UKSport.
Pendreigh, who was born in Hawick and now lives in Inverness, is well known for his work with the Paralympic squad. He has an impressive track record, coaching the squad which won a silver medal at the 2006 Paralympic Games in Turin, a bronze at the World wheelchair curling championships in 2007 and also through his coaching role with Team Murdoch, which captured gold at the World championships in the same year. Further GB experience and again in Turin, saw him guide the men's team to a silver medal at the University games in 2007.
Tom has an impressive personal curling track record too, having played in the World Men's Curling Championships in 2000, as well as being the Scottish Men's champion in 2000 and Scottish Men's finalist 10 times during his playing career.
In his spare time, Tom participates at a recreational level in, golf, cycling, running and just about anything with a ball as well as watching almost any sport at an international level even football!
