Scottish Institute of Sport high performance judo coach Graeme Randall has been awarded a sixth Dan by the British Judo Association for his outstanding level of competitive performance in judo.
Randall, Scotland's most successful judo player, is one of the youngest players to be awarded the grade. After retiring from the sport Graeme joined the Institute on its apprentice coach programme in November 2002 before becoming the high performance judo coach in 2005.
Holders of the sixth Dan and above are accorded considerable respect throughout the judo world and is universally recognised as a symbol of significant achievement.
Commenting on his award, Graeme said, “I am honoured to have received the award from the British Judo Association and I am proud to be recognised for my services to judo as a competitor. It is not an easy award to gain and it is something I will treasure forever.”
Graeme is Scotland's first and only judo world champion, has represented Scotland and Great Britain over 100 times and captured a gold medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
