British Curling announced today (20 December) the appointment of Hew Chalmers as British Curling coordinator. The role will involve the management and organisation of the curling squad and support staff in their preparation for both the Olympics and Paralympics in Vancouver 2010.

Hew Chalmers, currently the Director of British Curling, was GB Olympic Team Manager in 2002 and Team Coordinator in 2006. Hew will take up the post with immediate effect.

Scottish Institute of Sport head curling coach and British Curling performance director, Derek Brown commented on the new appointment.

"We are delighted to have someone of Hew's experience on board; he will bring a wealth of knowledge to the programme, ensuring that both the athletes and coaches are given the best possible opportunity to perform their roles effectively and to their full potential."

Chairman of British Curling, Chris Hildrey added, "Hews appointment helps us to continue to form a world class team of staff and service providers working towards Vancouver 2010. British Curling's target of medalling at both the Olympics and Paralympics in Vancouver is ambitious and Hews experience and skills, coupled with his attention to detail, will assist greatly in providing logistic support to the teams."
