For the second weekend in a succession Helensburgh's Gordon Reid has secured an international title.

On Sunday at the Sion Indoor in Switzerland the 16 year old Scot won the Men's Second Draw Singles, an ITF 3 series event on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour.

Reid, who became Britain's first International Wheelchair Tennis Junior Masters Boys' Singles champion a week ago in France, missed out on a place in the Swiss men's singles main draw by just one world ranking place.  But he fully justified his top seeding for the men's second draw singles, beating Swiss fourth seed Daniel Pellegrina 6-3 7-6 (4).in the final.

Reid's Sion victory will see him edge ever closer to his highest career ranking of No 60 achieved in March last year.  He will now bid to defend his men's main draw title at the ITF Futures Series North West Challenge in Preston, the first British-based world ranking event on the 2008 NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, in a fortnight's time.

Supporting him towards his goals, in particular helping him maintain the balance between tennis and education is the West of Scotland Institute of Sport.  Scotland's Area Institute of Sport network supports Scottish governing body-identified athletes by providing high performance expertise in the form of essential support services in sports medicine, sports science, strength and conditioning, and career and lifestyle guidance.
