GIS - Henderson wins Masters

A dominant Joanna Henderson won the 14 & under Ariel Grand Prix Masters at the LTA National Tennis Centre in Roehampton this weekend, beating England's Dominique Crompton 6-0 6-2 in the final.

HIS - Joanna HendersonAs top seed, Joanna, who is supported at her Aberdeen base by the Grampian Institute of Sport, reached the final without dropping a set.  In the final, she proved too powerful for the Cheshire second seed, Crompton.“I felt I did myself justice in the final,” said Henderson afterwards.  “As the top seed I was expected to do well here and felt that I delivered. I've been working really hard and it's nice to see it pay off on court.

“I've got a three week tournament block at Easter and then I'll be training hard with my coach ready for the summer. I just want to say thanks to my coach Chris Souter and my parents for all their support."

Iain Bates, National Junior Coach, was delighted with the level of tennis over the weekend: "I think it's been a really positive weekend. The National Tennis Centre is a great venue for these sorts of tournaments and the competitiveness throughout the two days has been very impressive.

“Jo has had a great weekend and today in particular has shown what a class player she is and played some top level tennis. Dominique showed plenty of determination to come through the draw and reach the final and can be really pleased with her performance."
