ESIS - Haddington gymnast wins Madrid international

Haddington gymnast, Holly Ramage, led the Scottish team to a three medal haul in last weekend's Tourneo Internacional in Madrid.

ESIS - Holly RamageTwelve year old Holly placed first on the Vault and Floor and second on the Bars and Beam to win the Child's event.  The two other members from the team, Musselburgh's Rachel Melrose and Amy Regan from Glasgow, finished second in the Youth and Novice categories respectively.

“I have competed against England and Wales before but never at this level against other countries from Europe,” said the delighted Lasswade Gymnastics Club member, who started the sport as a four year old.  “But I went there hoping for a medal.”

Holly was one of the first intake of gymnasts inducted into the East of Scotland Institute of Sport last year.  “They've been really helpful in helping me balance my school work and get to competitions,” she said.

“I've got the British Championships in four weeks time, then the Scottish Championships, then the British finals.”

Holly hopes her talent will ultimately lead her to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
