Edinburgh diver, Grace Reid, who made the perfect start to the season by winning three gold medals from February's Armada Cup in Plymouth, ended the season in even better form by winning all four gold medals in last week's British Elite Junior Championships, at Leeds in May.

Twelve year old Grace was competing in the event's 12-13 year old age group for the first time.  She won the Platform event, the 3 Metre, the 1 Metre and the Synchro, partnering Hannah Starling from Leeds.

“I just aimed for the best scores and didn't let myself get distracted and winning was almost the icing on the cake,” said Grace in her matter of fact way.

“I really enjoy doing all the boards because it gives me a choice and I don't limit myself.”

A year ago in the under 11 year old category, Grace won the 3 Metre and Synchro events.  But much has changed for Grace in 2008.  To use the country's best diving facilities in Leeds, Grace has made the trip south every weekend, complementing the 16 hours of training she already does in Edinburgh with Mary Sless.

At the same time she has started a Strength & Conditioning programme with the East of Scotland Institute of Sport and is taking nutritional advice to help her maintain energy over three day events.
Coupled with Grace's trademark determination it's obviously a recipe for winning gold medals.

“The equipment we have down here is helping her and she's learnt a lot as well,” said Jenny Leeming, her coach in Leeds.  “A while ago British Diving thought she was struggling on her inward take off technique and Grace being the most determined girl in the world has now become brilliant at inward take offs.

“She wasn't that good on the Platform last year. This year she wanted to prove she could do everything and she's become really good on it.”
