Another milestone for Miley

Hannah Miley travelled to Glasgow for the Scottish Championships (26 - 29 June) at Tolcross hoping to confirm her Olympic preparations are going to plan, and a record-breaking swim in the 200m backstroke was the perfect boost.
Hannah Miley web3The added bonus was that the rival left trailing in her wake was the Olympic 400m freestyle champion from France, Laure Manaudau.

Miley, the Inverurie 18-year-old, claimed the title in a new Scottish record of 2:12.66, over two seconds inside the mark set by Lorna Smith four years ago. Manaudau clocked 2:13.11.

"This is a great sign for my main events, the 200m and 400m individual medley," Miley said.

In the 1500m freestyle, Miley posted the fastest British time this year winning in 16:28.06, and taking over 20 seconds off the existing Scottish Record time of 16:48.88, posted by Megan Gilchrist in Loughborough over a year and a half ago.

What is more remarkable is that not only had she swum in, and won, the 200m breaststroke final a short time earlier, she swam most of the 1500m race out in front on her own, and eventually won by over 12 seconds. Favourite for the event, and fastest on paper, Aurelie Muller of France, was second in 16:40.73, while Laure Manaudau (France) won bronze in 16:54.98.

Robbie Renwick (City of Aberdeen), who has qualified for Beijing in the 200m freestyle, beat his fellow Olympian Andrew Hunter (Stirling) to win the 400m freestyle in 3:51.34.

Lewis Smith claimed the Scottish 200m individual medley title in 2:06.44 and in the 100m butterfly,Todd Cooper won bronze in 54.77.
