Gemma joined sportscotland institute of sport in November 2003 as an Exercise Physiologist with a First Class Honours Degree in Sport and Exercise Science from Cheltenham and Gloucester College of Higher Education and a Masters in Sports Science from Loughborough University. Gemma came from the Australian Institute of Sport where she was working as an Assistant Sports Physiologist on their International Scholarship Programme. Prior to that she worked at BUPA as a Health Advisor/Exercise Physiologist, was a part-time Research Assistant and Lecturer at the University of Northampton, and was a Fitness Instructor. In conjunction with holding numerous sporting qualifications, Gemma enjoys recreationally participating in a multitude of sporting activities in her spare time.
Since joining the Institute, Gemma’s role has changed considerably and has involved working extensively with British Swimming, the Central Scotland Institute of Sport and the University of Stirling. Gemma has worked with a variety of sports such as slalom canoe, triathlon, swimming for disabled athletes, athletics, curling, tennis and rubgy, to name but a few. However, her main sport is Swimming where she has supported both the Scottish and British teams in numerous National and International events.
