“It’s a significant level of competition and a prestigious one,” said his coach, Andrew Webb. “Chris competed in this event last year and finished with a bronze on pommel so he will be going back with the potential for building on that.”
Chalk, whose long term aim is to compete for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games, finished ninth in February’s Celtic Cup after injuring his Achilles tendon landing from his vault, but he has since been on the mend. In June he retained his Scottish junior title.
A recent inductee into the Central Scotland Institute of Sport, he has been making full use of its many services.
“He’s been using the facilities on a weekly basis,” added Webb. “He’s over his Achilles injury and has been using the strength and conditioning facilities at Stirling University.
A member of Falkirk Boys Gymnastics Club for the past two years, Chalk, will now look towards the British Championships in November.
