Appointment of High Performance Coaches

Area Institute Network established

Opening of new National Swimming Academy in Stirling

Second Operating Plan approved with £16m of funding "2003 and beyond - Creating Winners"

Opening of National Badminton Academy in Glasgow

Commonwealth Games: contribute 20 medals to Scottish team total of 29 - most ever Gold medals at Games (11), 9 won by Institute-supported athletes
2008
Olympic Games in Beijing: 31 Scots on Team GB, 30 of which were supported the institute and area network. 5 medals won by institute supported athletes
Paralympic Games in Beijing: 16 Scots on Team GB, 12 of which were supported by the institute and area network. 8 medals won by institute supported athletes.
2009
Merged with sportscotland to become 'sportscotland institute of sport.'
Runs on the board
Since 1998 the sportscotland institute of sport has helped prepare many of Scotland's best athletes to perform on the world stage. To date, this includes 12 world champions, 5 Olympic Gold Medals and 6 Olympic Silver Medals. At the Paralympics, institute supported athletes have won 14 Gold, 17 Silver, 12 bronze Paralympic medals. Success at Commonwealth Games includes 12 Gold, 11 Silver and 18 Bronze medals. In addition 9 European Gold medals have been won and a host of junior titles.
