Gold4Glasgow

Fast-tracking Scotland's sporting talent.

The sportscotland institute of sport Talent Programme has been set up to work in partnership with sports to help increase the number of Scottish athletes performing and achieving success on the world stage. Our aim is to use innovative and proactive methods to fast track more Scottish athletes to specialist development programmes aimed at achieveing success in Olympic and Paralympic competition, and importantly representing Scotland and achieving medal success at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2014.

Gold4Glasgow

Gold4Glasgow is the campaign name for our talent initiative targeted at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014. In this initiative we are looking for a people across a number of sports who have the potential to represent Scotland and Great Britain at the highest level.

Could this be you? Perhaps you may have potential for a sport you have never tried before or you feel you have what it takes but have never had an opportunity in high performance sport. Perhaps you have had to give up one sport but have skills that can be transferred into something else. There are lots of examples of how this can work; runners and swimmers moving into triathlon; gymnasts moving into pole vault, diving and weightlifting; runner rowers and skiiers moving into cycling; rugby players moving into judo and rowing; swimmers moving into canoeing; football players moving into hockey and athletics or sprinters and jumpers moving into bobsleigh and skeleton.

We know this won't be easy and our experience so far has shown us that a strong mindset is crucial. We want people who love a challenge, who push themselves, who don't give when things go wrong and who are motivated to do what it takes to succeed.

Over the following months we will be running a number of assessment events and sport specific testing days for people who feel that they have what it takes to succeed. We will then confirm their talent through rigorous testing and training camps, and then select a very special few to advance to high performance development programmes.

Individuals who make it through to final selection can expect to be working with some of the best coaches in Scottish sport and the many experts at the sportscotland institute of sport.
