Grampian Institute of Sport supported athletes were recognised for their performances in 2008 at the 16th Annual Aberdeen Sports Awards this weekend.

Joanna Henderson (tennis, Aberdeen) was presented with the Chris Anderson Trust award after an outstanding season that included winning the Ariel British Grand Prix Masters and British 14 and Under outdoor titles.  Joanna, who helped GB reach the Junior World Team final, also received the Junior Female Athlete of the Year award.

HIS - Joanna HendersonCatriona McGregor (shooting, Aberdeen) and Mhairi Charlton (squash, Aberdeen) both received silver medals as did former GIS supported hockey player, Louise Fleming, who is now studying in Edinburgh where she is supported by the East of Scotland Institute of Sport.

Former GIS swimmer and Scottish Institute of Sport athlete Robbie Renwick collected the Amateur Male Award.

Neil Fachie (Bridge of Don), another former GIS athlete, was presented with the Disability Athlete of the Year Award in recognition of being selected for the GB Paralympic Team. His former coach, Eddie McKenna, who helped prepare Neil for Beijing was awarded Coach of the Year.
