The Highland Institute of Sport has reselected its four squash players for a further year.
Jamie Henderson, Greg Loban, Ally McCorquodale and Ewen Urquhart will all continue to benefit from the Highland Institute’s high performance expertise which supports Scottish governing body-identified athletes as they progress along their sporting pathway.
“I’ve been with the Highland Institute of Sport for two years and I’ve noticed a big difference in the way I move about the court,” said Kessock 16 year, old Greg Loban.
“Running into the back and front corners and turning all the time you need strength and the mobility and the Highland Institute have helped me with that.
“I use the Strength & Conditioning side of it most and I’ve got a lot stronger and quicker as a result. I do it twice a week and I also get help from the dieticians, the physios as well as making use of all the facilities.”
“I’m down at the Heriot Watt Academy once a month for training and they look after the squash specific side and give me the extra support I need in squash.”
Greg has enjoyed his best year in the sport. He won the National under 17 Championships in February. Last month in Spain he helped ninth seeded Scotland reach the final of the European Team Championships, beating the second and third seeds on the way.
“I’ve got a few months left in this age group before my last tournament, the Dutch Open, then I’ll be moving up age group,” he said.
“My main goal for next season is to become Scottish Champion again, but it will obviously be harder because it will be my first year in the under 19s. Hopefully I will also get to play in the European events at under 19 level.”
