Dundee gymnast, Jordan Archibald, finished seventh on the beam and twelfth overall in last weekend's British Junior Championships in Guildford, her first appearance in the event.

Fourteen year old Jordan, a member of Dundee’s 2k Gymnastics Club and Scottish Junior squad, is working steadily towards her aim of competing in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

“This is Jordan’s first year and she was amongst older girls so it was a good achievement for her to get into the finals,” said National Coach, Sandy Richardson.

“The vault is possibly her strong point so it was a bit of a surprise to us all that she reached the beam final.  One of the things she managed which quite a few others didn’t was to go through the beam routine with no falls.  That helped her get to the finals.”

For the past year Jordan has been supported by the Tayside & Fife Institute of Sport (TFIS), part of the Area Institutes of Sport network that provides high performance expertise to Scotland’s potential world class talent.

“The support we have had this year from the Tayside & Fife Institute has been fantastic,” said Sandy. “The physio support she has had from Maggie Hendry has been really helpful and has meant she got to the competition fit.

“The lifestyle support from Colin Robertson has been a big bonus.  He has been into the school and negotiated time off so that Jordan can train on Wednesday afternoons with me in Auchterarder.  The medical and physical profiling has also allowed us to move on this year.”
