Andrew studied an MSci Physiology and Sports Science at Glasgow University during which he took a year long work placement at James Cook University in Townsville, Australia. Following this he completed an Msc by research whilst working with academy and reserve team footballers at Celtic F.C.
He then accepted a position on the UKsport fast track practitioner programme working as sports scientist for the British Paralympic Association at the EIS in Loughborough, during which he was involved in preparations for the Paralympic games in Beijing 2008. After completing this internship, Sommerville spent a year at the Scottish Institute of Sport providing physiology support to athletes in Tayside and Fife and to the national golf programme.
His next job move took him to St Mirren FC, where he was appointed as sports scientist. He spent 2 ½ seasons before recently returning to work at the sportscotland institute of sport as an Exercise Physiologist. Andy currently provides support to sports such as hockey, swimming, curling and wrestling.
