Influenze Vaccination 2006/2007 available at the Scottish Institute of Sport
As a high performance athlete your immunity against infection is reduced at times of heavy training, and an infection from the influenza virus can cause major absences from your training schedule.
Therefore, the Institute is offering its athletes the opportunity to be immunised against Influenza. This vaccine is not effective against colds or other viruses and it is not effective against Bird Flu.
As the medium for the vaccination is egg protein based, it is unwise for those with an egg allergy to consider immunisation.
It should also be noted that following immunisation, it is not unusual for a mild illness to occur (being the logic of vaccination, a small dose to provoke resistance). Therefore the timing of vaccination is important, and is best administered just before a rest day.
Athletes who suffer from Asthma are entitled to the vaccine on the NHS via their GP or practice nurse.
If you would like to take advantage of this vaccine, please contact Dr Brian Walker on 01786 460148, or reception on 01786 460100 to make an appointment. If it would be more suitable to attend Hampden please contact 0141 616 6161 or FASIC in Edinburgh 0131 650 2578
