There are no major changes from WADA this year.

The new prohibited list published by the World Anti Doping Agency and active for 1/1/07 shows no changes that should concern Scottish Institute of Sport Athletes.

Some minor tidying up of stimulants including specifying Yuaminoheptane used in some countries as a treatment for nasal congestion is added as a stimulant. As has 4-phenylpiracetam [chemical name for carphedon].

A reminder of the status of Glucocoticoids is added:- Glucocoticoids are prohibited when administered orally, rectally, intravenously or intramuscularly. Their use requires a Therapeutic Use Exemption Certificate [Full].

Other routes of administration [intra-articular/ perarticular/ peritendinous/ epidural/ intradermalinjections and inhalation] require an Abbreviated Therapeutic Use Exemption Certificate except as noted below.

Topical preparations when used for dermatological [including iontophoresis/phonophoresis], auricular, nasal, ophthalmic, buccal, gingival and perianal disorders are not prohibited and do not require any form of Therapeutic Use Exemption.

This has therefore been a quiet year in doping regulation.

The main worries for Institute Athletes remain foreign or alternative cold cures, steroid injections [always remind the administering doctor], Asthma [always check you have valid updated Therapeutic Exemption Certificate] and contaminated supplements.
