After a successful British Gas Swimming Championships, five Olympic hopefuls will head to Hungary for the European Swimming Championships as part of their preparation for the Games.

The event, which is being held in Debrecen in May, will see a mix of experience and youth compete to gain some valuable race practice ahead of their main focus event in London.
Commonwealth medallists James Goddard, Robbie Renwick and Michael Jamieson will be looking to put in some solid swims to sharpen their racing skills. Craig Gibbons and Sophie Allen will make up the team of five.
Dennis Pursley, British Swimming Head Coach said: “Participation in the European Championships was made optional for the British Olympians.
“The swimmers were encouraged to base their decisions on whether participation would enhance or compromise their preparation for the Olympics.
“The five who accepted the invitation will not be tapered for peak performance but will benefit from the opportunity to sharpen their racing skills.”
