Marek originally comes from Slovakia, and joined the Institute in September 2006 as an Exercise Physiologist. In 2010 he progressed into the role of Senior Exercise Physiologist. He previously worked for the Slovakian National Sport Centre (NSC) as the Head of Department of Sport Diagnostics, where he provided performance analysis and sport diagnostics for selected athletes of the NSC from 2004 to 2006.
After his Master's degree in Physical Education and Sports, where he majored in Track and Field events, he obtained his PhD degree in Sport Kinathropology in 2003 from the Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia. His dissertation was entitled “Diagnostics of Variability of Heart Rate Frequency of Athletes by the Spectral Analysis Method” and his professional interests lie within the fields of exercise physiology, biochemistry, heart rate variability, hormonal analysis and training planning.
Marek is former decathlon champion of Slovakia. He was also a member of the Slovak National Team in Decathlon and participated at European Cup level in 1999, 2002 & 2003.
