SIS Foundation: Talent Identification

The Foundation's first talent ID initiative was a successful pilot with the Institute, preparing for the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne with Israeli-based Winning Enterprises.

Yehuda Shinar worked with coaches and individuals from the Scotland swimming, athletics and Rugby 7s teams, teaching them how to “think correctly under pressure” like winners - known as 'T-CUP' - and adopt a new approach to talent identification.

Shinar was greatly encouraged by the Scots' winning spirit and performance in Melbourne - they scooped an impressive 29 medals and a new record of 11 Golds.

Yehuda returns to Scotland in August 2006 to work with a range of Institute-supported athletes and coaches on the 'T-CUP' approach.

Dougie Donnelly, the Institute's chairman, welcomes the Foundation's winning vision:

“While we are devoted to achieving success in a sporting context, the Foundation will seek to develop the all-important winning mentality more broadly within society, as well as contributing to the Institute's work in performance sport.

“Even at this early stage of its existence, I am delighted that our first joint project - with Yehuda Shinar - has been of significant benefit to the Institute coaches.”
